Default Stats: Firmino chasing new Reds landmark against Swansea

Roberto Firmino could set a new goalscoring landmark when Liverpool take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night.

The Brazilian has scored more times against the Swans in the Premier League era than any other Reds player, and he could become the club's first ever player to net in four successive top-flight games against the Welsh outfit.

Liverpool's No.9, who struck the equaliser as Jürgen Klopp's team came from behind to secure a 2-1 win in this fixture last season, has scored 10 times in his last 11 starts overall.

For more need-to-know pre-match facts and figures, courtesy of club statistician Ged Rea, read on...

Liverpool have scored in each of the last 10 league encounters with the Swans home and away, netting 27 of the 40 goals registered in those games.

A total of 50 goals have been scored in the Reds' 11 away top-flight games this season.

Liverpool are looking to record a sixth successive win in all competitions - a feat never achieved before under Klopp.

Klopp's side are unbeaten in 18 games. If they avoid defeat on Monday, they will record the club's longest run without a loss for more than 21 years, when they went 20 games undefeated.

In the Premier League, home and away, Liverpool have won seven of their 13 meetings with Swansea, drawing three.

Mohamed Salah has scored nine away goals for Liverpool in the top flight this season - only three times in the Premier League era has that total been beaten. Luis Suarez scored 14 away goals in 2013-14 after netting 12 the previous season and Michael Owen hit 10 in 2002-03. Salah's nine goals have come in 10 appearances.

Virgil van Dijk's first goal in English football came against Swansea in Southampton's 3-0 home win in September 2015.

Default Who will Jurgen Klopp name Liverpool captain at Swansea?

Jurgen Klopp may have a dilemma on his hands tonight in Liverpool's Premier League clash in Wales against Swansea City.

But what, exactly, is the issue?

With club-captain Jordan Henderson almost certain to sit this one out, having only recently recovered from his one-month spell on the sidelines, vice-captain James Milner a rare starter nowadays and stand-in skippers Dejan Lovren and Simon Mignolet both out of action - who will captain the Reds tonight?

As is usually the case, responsibility is now likely to shift to the longest serving Liverpool player on the pitch; so, who will accept this duty?

Emre Can is in pole position to wear the armband for the first time in his Anfield tenure. The German joined the club in July 2014; making him the most experienced Reds player that remains available for selection.

But he, of course, has a contract issue hanging over his head.

Other contenders include: Roberto Firmino, who has been at Liverpool one year less than Can, but may be given this honour in recognition of his impressive performances of late.

Then there is Adam Lallana, who is also a reliable figure in the team and could be deemed suitable.

Klopp was faced with a similar situation against Spartak Moscow in December's Champions League clash at Anfield, as both Henderson and Milner were not in the starting line-up.

Because of this, Philippe Coutinho, the longest serving player on the pitch, was presented with the armband.

The samba star, again, was trusted to lead-the-line on Boxing Day against tonight's opponents, in the Reds' 5-0 triumph.

With Coutinho now gone, though, another squad member will need to be elected to assume responsibility.

Default Klopp explains Reds' approach for Swansea clash

Jürgen Klopp selected a starting line-up that must be 'difficult to play' against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

The manager made one change to his team for the Premier League encounter in Wales, with Virgil van Dijk brought into the side for his Reds debut in the competition in place of the ill Dejan Lovren.

And Klopp has demanded that the whole XI – including the new No.4 – produce a concentrated and disciplined display to extend their 18-game unbeaten run.

“I didn’t think too much about a single player – I thought about the team’s performance,” he said.

“It’s very important that we all show the perfect attitude tonight. Life can be quite a challenge; our last game was against the top of the table and now it’s against the bottom of the table.

“We had a really good training week and the pitch here looks quite OK. A lot of things are different tonight. It’s all about the right attitude and I expect the right attitude from Virgil of course as well.

“If we show it then we are difficult to play, and if we are difficult to play then we can win the game.”
