Default Wind's New Project: 5feet Shrimp Tank

Hi folks,

Many would known that I had a 5feet South American Biotope which I maintained for almost 1.5 years.

However, due to my new job which requires me to be out of town 1/2 the time, I've decided to setup a shrimp as it needs lesser maintenance & water change as compared to keep fish. Also, I had a pretty good past experience with shrimp keeping & breeding hence the choice of coming back.

Here's a link to my previous setup in 2010: First CRS tank

The current setup is simple:

Soil- GEX Shrimp Soil
Chiller- Teco TR20 1/3HP
Tank - 5x2x2 (reduced height to 19")
Lighting- Aquazonic T5 (only use 1 tube as I don't plant to do much planting)
Filter- Ehiem 2028 + Fluval FX5 (currently sent for servicing)

Will be adding some mineral rocks tomorrow, and there are currently 2 Otos in the tank which are surviving well.

Plants are just some Christmas moss, flame moss, taiwan moss & a small stem of Cryptocorne which was there since my previous setup.

Currently setting the temperature at 26deg. Most likely going for some good lineage once stable.

I'm having a flight to HKG, hoping to buy some good stuff from there

Anywhere I should improve on? Please kindly advice! Cheers.

CK

indeed a huge setup for shrimps - looks empty now though! Surprised the otos survive without cycling - maybe the old media helped!

question though - people usually put gravel in front and soil at the back, you seemed to have done it the other way round. What's the plan?

LOL, from my 2ft shrimp tank i realized that once the water is stable, all you need to do is minimal water change. 5ft water is going to be more stable than a 2ft so hopefully I can benefit from the fact as well

And at least I don't have to head down to LFS that often to get my supplies of wool for my OHF which clogs up every week, weekly run to the LFS to get feeders etc.

Well, we'll see how things go

I think old media helped a lot, and the fact that the sudo sand is old, there should be a substantial amount of BB inside already. (There are some ceramic rings under the sudo sand)
