Bro DragonfireSG, Thanks for taking the time to write up, i really appreciate it, and perhaps i would PM u sometime soon to learn more. i am currently changing about 13,000 liters a week. so i guess the pressurized tank would be the best option.

Recently a little tired of the hobby with so many fishes & tanks to maintain, was thinking of scaling down so can prolong it for the many more years to come, there was a time where i was easily changing 20,000 liters a week and decided to downscale when it felt like it was getting too much, similarly now after quite some years, i think the time is again to further scale down.

possibly considering a pond sometime in the future to retire the fishes in there and to a maintenance free set up, just enjoy viewing & feeding them.

sounds like the fishes got into a shock and dropped slime (bubbles on surface).

shock might be caused by sudden pH change, sudden surge in ammonium or nitrite or chlorine/ chloramine.

sudden surge in ammonium or nitrite may result from stirring of gravel or gunk accumulated in the biological filter.
Hi, no, did not touch the filter nor any feeding at all before water change, i think the bubbles on the surface was caused by the tap water as when it was newly entering the tank it was present, however i did not take extra notice as i presumed with all the funny chemicals in the water that could possibly be normal.

i do agree with you that this seems like a case of Shock because literally all 13 of them were either swimming erratically or already floating, My tank PH is maintained similar to my tap water at around 7.5

i do not have any gravel, and if for any reason i do clean my filter, i would shut off the pump and remove all the water completely and flush the media & the sump with the water from the main tank and then restart my system so that the main tank does not get the so called '' gunky '' water.

i been doing this same usual routine/methods for the longest of time, and not experienced anything even close to this type of event happening. so i am pretty puzzled myself.

Bro aro77, overhead filter with carbon filters for 5 tanks.

Weekly washing & clearing of the filter materials too.

Yes, tough and exhausting but I am enjoying it

My fish: 3 aros, oscars & some "la sup" goldfish & kois

For me, doing wc is meditative.

Feeding and watching, not the fun part for me, boring.

Thanks for reminding me, yes.

Don't waste.

Even bones from soup.
I will freeze first, then thaw and salvage the meat slivers and tendons.
Red tail gouramis, louhans and climbing perch(puyu) love them.

Big bones I will dry, then use as filter media for my planted tanks.

Just my idiosyncratic ideas.

I think that the bone matrix is good media material, the minerals in the bone slowly dissolved and enriches water for plant growth.

should be OK for media. Just don't know how good it is. Can release calcium. Maybe good for the fishes and also can buffer abit of pH. Not so sure with the last part.

Bro, nice to hear that, i also enjoy maintaining the tanks but at the moment i think it is too much for me to handle, as becoming more busy these days.

i know what u mean haha, i used to play around and experiment with my set up all the time, now i think just have less time to do so, and too many large tanks to handle.

whenever i WC, i would sit there and view the fishes enjoying the fresh water. Aside from water changes, for me personally, i enjoy to just sit there, and appreciate the way the fishes calmly move, pure viewing pleasure.
