Default Jürgen Klopp's update on LFC injury latest

Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Tuesday’s visit to Huddersfield Town, but are set to be without the services of Adam Lallana and Ragnar Klavan once more.

The duo will continue their injury rehabilitation programmes at Melwood and Jürgen Klopp expects to be able to select from a similar squad of players to the one he had for Saturday’s FA Cup tie with West Bromwich Albion.

Asked for a fitness update in his pre-match press conference, the boss replied: “I’m not sure in the moment, it’s really close. We have again a few knocks, different things, but nothing decided so far in this moment.

"It looks like all the players who were available for the last game are available again, but not 100 per cent.”

Default Boss on the importance of Hendo's return

Jordan Henderson’s return from injury is ‘very important’ for Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp believes.

Captain Henderson made his first appearance in five weeks as a 65th-minute substitute during the Reds’ 3-2 FA Cup defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday following a hamstring injury.

The midfielder was brought on at the same time as vice-skipper James Milner and, speaking during his press conference to preview Tuesday’s trip to Huddersfield Town, Klopp praised the positive impact the duo had during an otherwise disappointing team performance.

“Very important,” the boss replied, when asked about the significance of Henderson’s availability.

“We need all the boys and I think Hendo did well when he came on, like Millie did. They brought some fresh ideas, obviously confidence. They were not involved in the first 60-70 minutes so they showed up.

“Both had good moments in the game and were involved in a lot of good things, so [it’s] very important for us, of course.”

Default 'First of all, we have to use our players' - Klopp on transfers

Jürgen Klopp has insisted his focus is firmly on using the tools currently at his disposal to get Liverpool back to winning ways, rather than relying on the transfer market.

The Reds have followed up an 18-match unbeaten streak with back-to-back defeats in the Premier League and FA Cup - at Swansea City on Monday and against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday respectively.

But Klopp says those results will have no bearing on any decision to add to the January signing of Virgil van Dijk before the window shuts on Wednesday.

The German told reporters: "In the next few days probably a lot will happen in the transfer market and we will see what happens here, but nothing else to say about that.

"Even if there would be something [to say], it would not help us or another club, to make the deal if [I said something]. That's why it makes no sense to talk about it - you write it anyway.

"It’s not about replacing anybody, it’s about using our own opportunities, our own tools, players, tactics, formations, all that stuff.

"Yes, it's right we didn't play well at Swansea, but a few days before we played fantastic against Manchester City. Of course, we could have won anyway at Swansea and exactly the same with the last game.

"That doesn't say anything about the performances only that the results were not good enough, but we could have won these games. It was not about creating chances, it was about different things in the game: against Swansea, formation-wise; against West Brom, defending.

"I don’t think Phil [Coutinho] would have helped a lot in these situations, to be honest. We have to [get] immediately back on the winning track, we need results to reach our targets, we know that, but the solution is not out there in the transfer market.

"We always have open eyes in situations like that but it is not that there is something out there for us to get because we really think first of all we have to use our players.

"Unfortunately, in the moment when Phil left, Adam [Lallana] got a little injury again. That's unlucky of course but that cannot be the reason for now getting nervous and go out and try to do something.

"In the long-term we will do a lot, in the short-term I don’t think it will happen."

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge heading to West Bromwich Albion for medical ahead of loan move

Daniel Sturridge is on the brink of a Liverpool exit with West Bromwich Albion having leapt ahead in the race to sign the striker.

Sturridge is set to undergo a medical at the Baggies later today with a view to completing a loan move for the rest of the season before the transfer window closes on Wednesday night.

Earlier on Monday, Newcastle United had appeared to be closing in on the 28-year-old, who is keen to leave Anfield this month in search of regular first-team football to bolster his chances of being named in England's World Cup squad for the summer.

It's understood Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez spoke to Sturridge with the Magpies having agreed a loan package with Liverpool and happy to pay the whole of the player's wage.

But while Newcastle had expected Sturridge to travel north on Monday afternoon, instead the player is bound for the Midlands close to where he was brought up in Birmingham.

Inter Milan were interested in the Liverpool forward but stepped away from a possible move over the weekend with sporting director Piero Ausilio saying: “Sturridge? I don’t exclude anything, but we made our evaluations. We already have players for that role.”

Sevilla were thought to be Sturridge's preferred destination but have not made concrete their reported interest in the player, and are said to now be chasing Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi.

Sturridge hasn't featured for Liverpool since December and, despite being fit, was left out of the 18-man matchday squad for Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Anfield to West Brom.

Default Mohamed Salah has created Liverpool history again – and nobody noticed

There was so much going on at Anfield on Saturday that it was a moment easily overlooked.

And amid the acrimony and debate following a VAR-infused FA Cup defeat , Liverpool supporters probably still haven't grasped the landmark achievement.

Mohamed Salah's second-half goal may ultimately have proven futile as the Reds looked to drag themselves back into the fourth round tie against West Bromwich Albion.

But it was another notable step in the Egyptian's remarkable Anfield career.

Salah's strike was his 25 of the season in 32 in games in all competitions – making him the fastest Liverpool player to achieve such a feat in 102 years.

The Reds forward had previously matched Roger Hunt's club-record total for number of goals in a season before New Year's Day with 23, as well as equalling Daniel Sturridge's achievement of reaching 10 Premier League goals in only his first 13 games in the competition for the Reds.

Salah has 18 top-flight goals this season. To put that into perspective, Tuesday's opponents Huddersfield Town only have 19 between them all season.

Few would argue against the fact Salah isn't quite hitting the same heights as during a glorious spell towards the end of 2017.

But even so, he continues to tick over with goals. Four in his last four outings. Six in seven.

Scoring when not playing well is the sign of a great striker. For a winger to follow suit, though, is undoubtedly rare.

Salah will now have his sights set on his next feat, reaching 20 league goals.

Indeed, during the Premier League era only four different players have reached that figure – Robbie Fowler and Luis Suarez both twice, Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge once.

A Salah goal at Huddersfield would also be notable for other reasons, not least as it would prevent Liverpool failing to score in successive league games for the first time under Klopp, who has also never lost back-back Premier League matches.

Mind you, Salah's total could have been more had he converted a chance from the spot back in October.

The opponents that day? Huddersfield Town at Anfield.

Default Swansea City and Wolfsburg register interest in Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic

Lazar Markovic's Anfield nightmare could be coming to an end with Swansea City and Wolfsburg having registered an interest in the Liverpool winger.

Markovic, signed from Benfica for £20million in the summer of 2014, has no future under Jurgen Klopp and hasn't featured for the Reds since May 2015.

Both Swansea and Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have contacted Liverpool regarding a possible move for the 23-year-old.

It comes after Russian sides Lokomotiv Moscow and Spartak Moscow were both linked with interest in the player before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.

The Reds would sooner Markovic leave in a permanent deal but are willing to consider a potential loan.

Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal said: “He is one more name to add to the 37 we have talked about since the beginning of the transfer window.”

Markovic, who has scored three goals in 34 appearances for the Reds, has previously had loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon and Hull City.

The Serbia international was an unused substitute in the League Cup defeat at Leicester City in September, and three days later made his only appearance of the season for the under-23 in the 4-2 with over Tottenham Hotspur.

Default Juventus open talks over signing Emre Can – but could Liverpool still scupper deal?

Juventus have opened talks over signing Emre Can this summer – but admits Liverpool still want the player to pen a new deal.

Can is out of contract at the end of the season with discussions over a new Anfield agreement having broken down months ago over the demand for a release clause.

Jurgen Klopp admitted at the weekend it appeared the 24-year-old was willing to wind down the remainder of his contract and that Liverpool had to “accept it”.

Juventus have been long-time suitors of Can, who moved to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for £9.75million in the summer of 2014.

But while confirming negotiations have already taken place with the player, Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has revealed he could yet stay at Anfield.

“Emre Can's contract is expiring in the summer so you would expect that a club like ours have attention on him,” said Marotta.

“We have initiated contact but it does not mean it's done. It will not be easy as Liverpool also want to renew his contract, without forgetting that there will be other clubs in for him.

“Our attempt is made with every effort possible.”
