koi pond filter versus sump filter

which is more effective?

usually i noticed koi pond filter are first chamber is filter brush then the next chamber are japanese matts...

then sump filter are mostly first chamber are japanese matts or wool then the rest of the chambers are all ceramic rings...

any difference on the filters?

can a koi pond filter system capable if we put some stingray community on the pond or comminity of arowanas?

can a sump filter capable if we put koi in the tank?

A good Koi pond filters are at least four or more chambers, IMHO.

1st chamber is inlet chamber, 2nd chamber is settlement chamber, 3rd and 4th chamber will be bio-chamber, 5th chamber will be oyster shell, and 6th chamber is pump chamber and the last chamber is dry chamber for you to do daily flushing.

Ray in a koi filter system will be flourish. Whatever filter you use, you keep water and the koi/Ray/fishes will keep themselves well.

It is not good to keep koi in a fish tank, maybe a FGT. IMHO.

i also like to ask.. why do koi filters dont have ceramic rings inside the chambers while almost all aquarium tank with sump have lots of ceramic rings...

hi bro, i think its cause koi pond filters are large scale and can afford the space to use jap matts. In aquarium filters the usable area for BB to grow in is limited and the use of ceramic rings would be more practical. Ceramic rings are extremely porous and have a huge surface area for BB to grow. Oh and it wouldnt be very cost effective to use CR in koi filters as you would need aaaallooooooooooot and would be very expensive but if you do have money then a koi filter full of CR i guess would be able to handle a super heavy bioload!

Bro....

if you put ceramic rings in koi pond....you will need a lot and is very massive and messy!

Filter-matt is a cheaper alternative.
some use brushes all the way.
some use bacteria house....

any media will be good for the bacteria to grow.

Koi is a heavy bio-load fish. If a pond proven that it can handle big size koi bio load, using it to keep ray will not be a problem.

just a follow up question.. can a bakki filter do the job in a ray pond tank?
i notice bakki filer is used mostly on koi ponds also...

bro...definitely yes.

any good design filter is to maintain good water...with that..all type of fish should do well.

I'm using bekki shower for my ray pond.
