New Year Refresh..
Hi all,
I've been in this hobby for some time now and have previously dabbled with different species.. Shrimps, Corydoras, Guppies, Apisto.. As I've settled into being a different phase in life, I've had lesser time to spend on the hobby and high maintenance tanks and species of fish are just too much to juggle. As such, I'm now planning a livestock refresh for my relatively small ADA 45cm tank and I need suggestions on livestock. Here's my criteria.. 1. Low tech 2. Low maintenance 3. Single fish I'm intending to keep a single fish to keep things simple and reduce the need for regular maintenance due to high bioload. Are there any suggestions for a singular fish that survives well in a 1.5ft tank and yet is interesting enough to keep alone? I know some smaller puffers might fit the bill, but having to constantly buy snails throws me off abit. I've considered a marine setup with a single lionfish but I have no experience in saltwater and have no idea how to manage water changes. There's also a lot of equipment required for a saltwater setup. Ohh.. I'm not a big fan of kamfa either. The kok head does not appeal to me much. So.. What else do we have locally..? See the above link. I saw a fish which has multiple whiskers and does not grow very big. I saw it at local fish shop and fish farm before. I don't know the scientific name or English name but in Chinese is called "千手观音". It swims graceful and I thought keeping it alone will be most suitable. |

Dwarf snakehead with lots of low tech plants will be nice.
Also, the tank has to be securely covered. |

You can try rainbow wolf fish (erythrinus erythrinus), ferocious mini predator.
Or you could keep a wild betta inside, such as those larger species like unimaculata or ocellata. If you want something weird, you could try a south american leaf fish, cool predator, but needs live feeder fish. |
