Must have determination to starve the fish.
A lot of times will heart pain and give it the regular diet.

Wow, that's an awfully a long time bro. I tried up to 4-5 weeks and gave up - the aro was starting to be very aggressive on the plecos (and the tank walls got messy as the plecos stopped 'working') and tank mates too (clown loaches). I thought it'd would die or something after so long without food. Anyway, the aro won, I lost.

Pellets are specially formulated with all the essentials required by the fish. Most are meant to be fed as the staple diet.

Feeders, SW and MP are all a single source of nutrients that will invariably be lacking in some content. For example, goldfish feeders are known to be high in fat and prolonged feeding could lead to health issues (DE has been known to be caused by excessive fat buildup behind the eye).

I might be wrong. Just sharing my views on this.

Just sharing my experience. Recently, my aro just started to eat pellets. I was feeding mp previously. I started by just throwing in pellets only. Just keep doing it everyday and with my comms of parrots n Luohan that readily take the pellets, it finally joins in to eat. Btw mine is still less than a year old. It does get skinny but hope it can gain back the mass with e pellets. So long it bite n spit out, u r mid way there.
