Filter media degenerating
Was cleaning my sump and realised that my filter media seems to be lesser then before...
Anyone experienced this too? |

Yup me too! I think ur talking about the substrate in the filter right? I guess it's about the same thing but after some time some types of media will degebarate in the water. My carbon sticks always degenerates but really slowly!

quite common ba... they get "eroded"... how quickly depends on how fast your water flow through them. Got Eheim Substrat Pro from marble size become like pi sai.

Stone/rocks will also be eroded under running water.

For me, it is most evident for biohome. When I did my sump maintenance some time ago, the sticks just crumbled into sand.

Mine same time bought biohomme and biohomme plus mixed in canister. All the grey biohomme become soft and upon pressing turns to sand. Only the red biohomme remain hard and intact
So now I only buy biohomme plus. |
