I was puzzled when i read the news too. FW = FT? Do FW squeeze train with us, compete job with locals, invade our hdb, organize major event in crowded city area? Hai.. their eyes really da stamps. Zzz

If really desperate, could have release the required FW quota based on the project requirement, once complete, that batch of FW permit will be expired, no extension allowed. These worker don't take public transport as transport and lodging is provided.
The government is not keen to reduce the FT issue, instead, lump it with the FW quota because of the free trade agreement which is part of the package signed for movement of FT at both end. If don't show the FW control, many countries would have bring Singapore to WTO notice for violation of the pact.
