SINGAPORE: Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries collected a total of S$159 million for the Financial Year 2010.

In the 2009 Financial Year, the amount was S$149 million.

And for the period up to end-October of 2011, the amount stood at S$97 million.

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew gave this update in response to questions from Non-constituency MP Mrs Lina Chiam.

He stressed that the gantries are tools to manage congestion and are not meant to generate revenue.

The gantry at Nicoll Highway collected the highest amount. It collected S$32,000 based on the week-day average in a typical month..

The gantry at Upper Boon Keng Road collected the lowest amount at S$130.

Non-Constituency MP Yee Jenn Jong asked Mr Lui will there be any plans to scrap gantries that collect significantly lower amounts than others.

In his reply, Mr Lui said: "The reason why we need some of these cordons, for example like Upper Boon Keng, is that it is part of the outer cordon through which vehicles have to pass in order to get to the city. We need to also control the movement of vehicles in this direction and we have to make sure that we basically have a cordon that is sufficiently effective."

Huat ah!!!!

So now you guys know why they die die don't want to shift the ERP gantry after the braddell exit on CTE towards city giving all sort of stupid no brain excuses.

I am exiting the expressway to braddell and yet I have to pay ERP. I am reducing the traffic and not increasing the traffic and yet need to pay. Stupid right? But not to them.

Yup, what sort of dumb theory when he mentioned increased surcharge hours made getting Taxis easier........why not try raising the price of chicken rice to $10 a plate.......then whoever buys it need not queue at all.....

What a stupid way of raising price to curb demand......

As soon as a new Expressway was built, the gantries are already in place in anticipation of traffic congestion? How the hell they know? For them, forward planning on fresh revenue schemes to milk car owners is a habit.

ERP was initially, to replace the old manual human manned toll box in the City area. They cleverly included Restrcted Zone into CTE (after AMK Ave 1) before introduction of ERP. This helped them introduced ERP into the expressway with minimal resistence.

Than they spread the ERP network to more expressways, put more gantries on the same stretch of expressway (how many on south-bound CTE?). They pushed it a step further, include Toa Payoh, and Upp Bt Timah (Hume park area). Than proposed Bt Merah (why e hell Bt Merah when e traffic there isn't as bad as Adam and Farrer Rd?).

What Next???

Last time, they said ERP was to keep traffic flowin at a certain minimum speed (was it 50kmh?) than they reduce the speed and increase e fee.

WHAT NEXT???

PAP..... they PEE and we PAY.
