Default filter box/cannister water

How often should we change it?

Depends on set-up, bio-load and water readings.

I think regular changing is good even thought the wool may look clean.

I meant depends on your water readings. Say for example if u use a PH meter to monitor your tank water and found the PH drops faster than usual (this is just one example only) then perhaps it's good to change the wool of the filter or wash the media in it.

If using canister, maybe 3 to 4 times a year. But as I said, it all depends on water readings and bio-load. If the bio-load of your tank is high, you should change it more frequent.

When you change or clean your filer, surely all the dirty water should dump away and use existing tank water to clean the media.

Thanks bro for your reply. My tank ph always above 7. Once every three months I open the cannister. The water is very black. I only keep one 6" parrot and a 11" cichlid in the tank and feed a bit twice a day. Do I need to pour n replace the black water in filter more regularly?

3 months very good already. Can consider even longer if you only keep 2 fishes and your PH did not drop

Means half a year. But I will do every three months. To clean the sponge and pour out all the black water.

Yap, wash the media every 3 months with water from the fish tank . change canister water whenever you need to change the filter sponge.
