It may be so that the Singapore Zoo is among the best in the world. I only hope they do not keep any more animals from the arctic as our environment is among the hottest in the world.

As I too do not come from this region despite being born here, I suffer from the heat. When I see some people around me wearing sweaters or work in the heat without perspiring, especially those Malay women wearing tudung, I suppose they are more acclimatised.

I think the zoo bleach the polar bear every now and then to remove the green algae which thrive in their hollow hairs. I don't think the algae disappeared naturally as in the Arctic where half of the year there is no sun.

To survive and join the elites in Singapore, you have to be a conformist.

The Halloween incident was a demonstration of failure at being conformist.

I think basically the zoo is only upkeeping the place till both expire as the zoo will not be getting any more new bears. In future, the only chance our grand children get to see them will be the fur museum or repeated telecast of the Polar bear documentary.
Wild Polar bears are also dying at alarming rate due to melting ice and less available food.

Celebrating 24 Years Of Torture

Singapore-born polar bear Inuka celebrates his 24th birthday
POSTED: 26 Dec 2014 14:32

To celebrate Inuka’s 24th birthday, keepers presented the polar bear with a giant “ice kachang” cake together with his favourite food including salmon, blueberries, watermelon and strawberries topped with whipped cream, said Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS).

Inuka, who was born in 1990 in his mother’s den at the Singapore Zoo, weighed only 400g at birth. According to WRS, he now tips the scale at more than 500kg, and is well into his senior years. WRS said Inuka consumes close to 30kg of meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables on a daily basis.

The polar bear was welcomed to the world in the wee hours of Boxing Day, and WRS said the keepers have since referred to him as their "best Christmas present ever". The locally-born Inuka is currently living in his Frozen Tundra home, which features climate-controlled resting areas and a large pool for him to swim in.
