Pro/Cons Using Fiber Glass Tank
Hi Friend,
Newbie here. Since my stingray are getting bigger in my 5x2x2 tanks, I'm planning to buy 1 fiber glass tank (FGT) size 8x4x3 or 9x3.5x3 with 2 wide filter box for them. I'm just wondering about the pros & cons using this kind of tank. Anyone want to share their experiences and advices when using FGT?.. I also have questions in my mind : 1-Is it reliable compare to glass tank?.. 2-Do i need to put styrofoam under FGT?.. 3-What colour is the best?.. Thanks in advances.. |

Pros:
lightweight. Portable. Can be part of home fixtures with decorated tiles, stones. Irregular shape possible. Any color/multiple color of your choice. Cons: Can be ugly if poor workmanship. Heard not as lasting as glass tank. Paintwork sometimes not lasting. Viewable area is limited. 1. I don't know 2. I used few pieces of Styrofoam to cushion my Fgt. 3. Color is up to your preference, surrounding fixtures and type of livestock inside. |

With FGT of this size, is like more than 2.5tonnes of water. Need to check the load with HDB?

Confirm will need approval, if you want to do the right thing.
Your wide filter box is to the side of the tank right? Else, next to impossible to get approval. |

I personally prefer fiber glass due to two reason
1. lighter and more mobile 2. only one surface of glass. This is very important to me coz i have a small kid that goes around throwing stuff ( at the throwing stage). so having just one side of glass is more assuring |

Pros:
Cheaper Cons: Not as nice as glass tank Viewing level is lower Filter box usually not as big as sump But for the size you looking at FGT is definitely significantly cheaper than glass tank. If it's me I will get as big a glass panel as possible for viewing purposes. Filter box also as large as possible so can support more bioload. |
