Default Spangled Perch (Australian Native Fish)

Hi folks,

I've moved to Melbourne some 2 months back for studies and started working part time for a LFS.

Found this Australian native perch, very fiesty and interactive. We had a piece in a community tank and it ate most of the other fishes. It has a temperament similar to that of a KBL.

A pic & vid to share

Interestingly this species is a super hardy, tolerating temperatures of 4-44degs. And like KBL, it can tolerate salt water and freshwater. Grows to about 1ft.

I'll try to take a video from my work place, that fella is really inquisitive & fun to watch!

very very very limited selection here. managed to know this taiwanese LFS boss, he imports quite a good selection of Apistos though.

Australia has an extremely strict rule of livestock imports so most of the species are banned. Thankfully all species of Apisto & corydoras are allowed...

Although allowed, not many people are willing to bring in the fishes. Wild fishes from South America are not allowed to be directly imported. Hence, these fishes are quarantined through Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesian farms before being shipped to Australia. By passing though more hands, the prices of the fish goes up like crazy.

Eg, C. sterbai costs AUD$9.... lol

Cannot. You walk pass their custom with soil at the bottom of your shoes also cannot.

Nice colouration. Do they keep their colour to adulthood?

Know from someone who used to operate a crab farm in Darwin that they have very high backed KBL in the seas there.

This perch looks different from his description of the KBL.
