MH Light for plant

Need advise whether MH light is suitable for plant tank. Will they cause grow of algae. Tks

MH will rise the tank temperature, you may need to add a chiller, that will increase your monthly bill.

MH is always the best, brighter the better... (my opinion)
if i can affort it, i sure go for mh, but as what t-44 said, you might need a chiller...

but then again its been argued that the mh does nt raise the water temp that much, maybe u can search for some passed post and check out on that portion...
lastly mh, pl or fl. if water conditions are not right, algae will come...
they come in a 'package' when ur into planted...
hehe...

before going for mh, ask yourself whether your plants really need that kind of light intensity.

even if you can keep temps down with a chiller, you still need to ensure that other plant nutrients are available for the plants to drive their growth.
by using mh lights, you are in a way turbo charging the plants for growth.
so if nutrients like co2, N, P , K & traces are not available for the plants to use, the plants will intead get stunted or worse, melt away.

with stunted plant growth, algae will visit.

Usu mh is concentrated at one area. T5 tubes offer a better spread. However, mh gives a more "natural" look, casting shadows of waves.

if planning to use MH. and u have the space and the design for MH lightins, hang it as high as possible. its penatration power is rather strong. so hanging it reasonabily high is no problem that would usually solve heating problem as more gap means more air circulation in turns becoming lower heat exchange from heat water

Depends on e Size of tank.
MH comes in Minimun 150W...
N u will have to get a good Reflector to have a good
dispersion of e Lights...

Temperature n Electricity Bill is another point to consider...
Recommanded for setup of 4ft n above....
