Anyone using uninterruptible power supply (UPS) ?
As topic, anyone using a uninterruptible power supply (UPS) as a back up power source for your fish tank? Am planning to get one and would appreciate info on sources that will do on site installation.
thanks in advance. |

I used to use a unit I believe is called an inverter. That isn't a UPS unit per se (although similar in concept) but more like a automatic power line to battery switch over.
I used it when I had an aro comm tank. The unit was hooked to a car battery and would be powered by the car battery if the mains failed. When the mains came on, it would recharge the car battery. In this respect, the concept is similar to a UPS. Anyway, using this device, the air pump could run for many days (or lesser if you powered the pumps etc as well). I never worried about power failure with this. I think the brand was Inverex. This device is useful for high bio-load. Good luck in your search. Cheerz |

thx for the replies. i was considering APC or inverex but not the plug n play type with universal sockets.. wanted to hook up all my tanks + computer lol.
but since my technical knowledge is very limited i decided just go for the basics and went for APC BX1100LI-MS Back-UPS 1100VA. need to test how long the battery will last with my whole setup plugged in rather than just a hiblow. at least give me a peace of mind when going on vacation. |

Hi bro any updates on the UPS? I plan to get one too but also have no idea about the technical specs so was hoping for your feedback!

Sorry for late reply been quite busy recently. So far i managed to test it for 12 hours with a hiblow 80 and fluval sp6 connected.. was still going strong. But wife put an end to the testing cause the constant beeping (warning alarm that main electrical source is off) was too irritating lol.
