Unhappy External Filter pumping out a lot of air bubbles

Hi all,

I have been having some issues with my external canister pumping out a lot of small bubbles from the outlet. I am using Tetratec EX 90. Been using it for more than 4 years already.

Any advice on this? Should I change a new canister?

perhaps there's air bubble trap within the canister ? try sucking the outlet if its not self priming ? or either way can try to rock the canister. it happens to my eheim classic here and then. not sure if its similar problem but no harm trying ?

is this happening recently after opening the cover?
1) check that inlet is properly submerged
2) check the outlet to see if there's any gaps
3) tilt the cannister to see if it helps

Probably a leak somewhere between the input/output points. Any water leak?

are you currently using a surface skimmer or something that allows air to go into the inlet?

Bro I have the same problem with my eheim, found that one of the hose joint is loose which allow air sneaky in and some water leak, hence check all your joint after every wash

After every wash, rock the pump abit to release the air trapped inside. Also check the connector to see if is loose and taking in air.

Cause of air bubbles

1) Air trap inside canister - Give the canister a few shake it should do the trick
2) There a leak on the hose - If not item 1, would be item 2, no solution, unless u wan to change the whoel length of hose. To test, you would need to pressure up the hose to check if there any leak coming out
3) Do check if the motor is warmer than usual, else suggest to live with it. Plus point, you save on air pump.

FYI, i create a "Leak" on my hose just to get the air effect so there no requirement on air pump
