There are around 18 judges from different country, the judging criteria is as below:
- Impression (max 100 point)
- Creativity (max 20 points)
- Composition and planting balance (max 20 points)
- Harmony of fish and layout (max 20 points)
- Creation of natural atmosphere (max 20 points)
- Aquatic plant condition and time progress (max 20 points)

In addition to the above, there also votes by participants. This votes will determine who enter top 100. Country with more participants will definitely benefit .

There also votes by IAPLC party participant. they will total all the above to determine rank and grand champion.

Doesn't sound very transparent.

Voting is a new judging system that was just implemented this year, fine tuning will probably needed to improve it.

The flow of grading is as follow:
1. First of all, Amano will select 200 from 2000 plus participants.
2. From there participant was asked to select their best 3. This is important to get your scape to the top 100 because only the top 100 will be judge by 18 panel judges.
3. Once in top 100, judges mark is become dominant. Each judges can give you maximum 200 points, multiply by 18 judges. IAPLC party attendees votes can probably improve rank by 1 or 2 and thats about it. This is because the number of party attendees is only 260. Thus the maximum mark you can get is 260 assuming everyone votes your tank which is very much not possible.
4. Combine all the point above to get the 8 to 100 ranking
5. Lastly, another votes by party attendees to select the grand champion
