Best to keep it simple and stick with maintenance free, fast growing plants like hornwort or elodea. The objective here is to absorb the nitrate.

I've seen other examples though, where the water from the sump is plumbed out to a seperate planted tank.

Do share if you have the pic or video. I was thinking to do the same for this type of sump plumbing out to separate planted tank on my next setup when i move to new house.

Sorry Must have been quite awhile ago I can't recall any particular thread. There was one here and a couple on MFK.

Anyway if you google 'Planted refugium' there are quite alot examples.

I prefer to use non sumbermerged plants- keep the roots in the water column for filtration.
