Can't wait to have a congo, and see them feeding. Anyway is red congo a variant or just different shade shown?

hmm let me try to explain.. i would say they are different morphs or variants of the same fish. so there are the orange, brown, red etc.. but in their own morphs or variants then according to environment provided, they will have different shades to suit their surroundings (: experts please correct me if im wrong. thanks! |

congos do not NEED sand, but they want it...
that's what they do... burrow in the sand, and take their unsuspecting prey from the bottom. i've tried to keep congos without sand, but it's sad when you see them try to burrow even though there is no sand. so i always provide sand for them there are 3 variants, the red, orange and the brown. but within each variant, they can have different shades of red/orange/brown depending on the colour of the substrate. |

After reading this thread, I need to get one too.. Like now! lol.. But I've never kept one b4.. Can anyone give me some advice?
Is it a hardy fish? What kind of habitat is needed besides sand? Need plants or cave to hide? Water conditions? Max size? Thanks in advance =] |

i have not seen mine trying to burrow yet. All it does is just sit right at the edge of the tank looking out. But it would move away whenever i get too close to the tank.
Btw, out of the 8 congos that were sold at c328, were there any red ones? Like the one on pufferpedia? |

CF used to bring in red congos like that...
But haven't seen any red congos since they are not in operation anymore. Orange ones are quite common too. Though my favourite is still the brown. The brown variants are a master of camouflage. It takes me a moment of staring into the tank to spot them... |
