These are big monster later. Your 3ft wont be able to see that they grow till big big. However u can keep till u wanna consider change fish tank or change fish.

Btw, is it normal for bichir to float on the surface water. Several of mine like to float like a croc. I have a friend use to rear bichir and he said he first time see it When he came to my hse |

Very normal, unless it looks bloated and swims with a funny motion. It was discussed in many other earlier threads. Do a search and u will find many thungs u need to know about polypterus aka bichirs.
