As we notice, a lot of these 'chief' becomes PAP candidates gg thru backdoor into parliament. I guess it is a strategy. Rather have these pple into politics, than have them become too strong in the forces, that they become a thread. If we look at coup in neighbouring countries, it happened when military officers became too powerful.
