My 2 cents.
The smartnation initiative is about making all the "sensors" of all the agencies ( LTA, PUB, NEA etc ) talk to each other. LTA has "sensors" for many public transport systems.eg MRT - location of trains, occupancy of trains, number of ppl in Q Same for taxi and buses. Road Infrastructure - traffic conditions, accident info, sos phones, expressway alarms, incident detections, etc CAAS - flight information, passenger arrivals, airport taxi mgmt. PUB - has water level of drains/rivers, flood level NEA - weather information, rain, haze MHA - large congregation of ppl etc, other CCTV analytics, people in distress, public alarms activation. residents home alarm activation SCDF - fire alarm activation Smartnation serves to ensure all these info can talk to each other. IDA's smartnation network infrastructure ensures the network backbone both physical and network protocol specs to ensure they talk to each other. Once these "sensors" are talk to each other and is available to all agencies then there can be synergy between the agencies in implementing cross agencies smart apps. eg. Flood info can immediately be flashed on LTAs variable messaging system (VMS) so that drivers can avoid these areas. Same for fires etc, can be dispatched to different agencies automatically and quickly. The apps can only limited by imagination and creativity. The foundation will be laid by smartnation. |

no smart technology can make people who don't want to talk to each other talk to each other.

Anything that can enhance and better the people's lives should be good and worth the monies spent.
Using public funds to enhance their control and power over the people is not. Of what use are those expensive furniture and fittings in government buildings or BMW/Volvo cars? Are they for the people's benefit when there are not enough hospital beds, and long queues in polyclinics? The budgets for most government organisations are ever increasing because the government is more willing to spend on such expenditures. Who does not want a Brompton bike to ride around? |
