Malaysia's 1MDB financed 'Wolf of Wall Street': Report
POSTED: 02 Apr 2016 20:32 UPDATED: 02 Apr 2016 20:40 File photo of the Wolf of Wall Street (AFP) A A NEW YORK: Some of the money to make the hit movie "The Wolf of Wall Street" was allegedly laundered from a scandal-hit Malaysian firm founded by the country's leader, the Wall Street Journal reported. Embattled Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has been under fire over allegations that hundreds of millions of dollars were stolen from state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), and his acceptance of a US$681 (RM2.6 billion) million overseas payment. Both Najib and the now debt-stricken company strongly deny any wrongdoing. According to the WSJ, it took six years to produce the movie, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and is directed by Martin Scorsese, because Hollywood studios were reluctant to invest in an R-rated movie about financial corruption. A small production company called Red Granite Pictures, which had made only one movie, came up with the more than US$100 million needed to turn the film into reality, the newspaper said in its report Friday. Global investigators believe much of that money was diverted from 1MDB, an investment vehicle founded in 2009 by Najib with the stated goal of stimulating local economic growth, according to the story. The Red Granite Pictures website names Riza Aziz - which the Journal identifies as Najib's stepson - as the company co-founder and co-chairman. Investigators in two countries believe that some US$155 million that originated with 1MDB moved into Red Granite in 2012 through an intricate route involving offshore shell companies, the newspaper said, citing unnamed people familiar with the probes. FBI agents have issued subpoenas to several current and former Red Granite employees and to a bank and an accounting firm the company used, the Journal added. "The Wolf of Wall Street" is based on the life of Jordan Belfort, who in the 1990s become a wealthy stock broker living a life filled with sex and drugs by swindling investors in a securities scam. Belfort went to prison after pleading guilty to fraud and stock market manipulation. On the 1MDB allegations, Najib claims he is a victim of political conspiracy. He initially denied reports he received the overseas payments, but his government later acknowledged Najib was the recipient of US$681 million, saying it was a gift from the Saudi royal family - most of which was given back - to "promote moderate Islam". That explanation is yet to be confirmed by Saudi Arabia and is widely dismissed in Malaysia as a cover story. - AFP/yt And they also financed Wolf Of Malaysia. Will they finance me if I'm a color wolf? |

Oops! Why Did 'Saudi Royal' Use Eric Tan To Set Up Offshore Company To Pay Najib? Rather than send money to Aabar, however, the 1MDB fund ended up transferring $3.5 billion to a different company with a name nearly identical to Aabar’s, according to the report by Malaysia’s parliamentary committee. Some of that money in turn was transferred, via intermediaries, to a shell company called Tanore Finance Corp., registered in the British Virgin Islands, investigators in two countries believe. The beneficial owner of Tanore when it was first set up was*Tan Kim Loong,*a young Malaysian business associate of Mr. Low’s, according to people familiar with the matter. Attempts to reach Mr. Tan were unsuccessful. Global investigators believe it was from Tanore*that $681 million was transferred to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib’s accounts at AmBank in March 2013, according to the people familiar with the investigations. Source:*Oops! Why Did 'Saudi Royal' Use Eric Tan To Set Up Offshore Company To Pay Najib?, Wall Street Journal Comment The piece of new information in this long article was that the beneficial owner of Tanore Finance Corporation, a company set up by Aabar’s Falcon Bank in October 2012, was Tan Kim Loong, whom a “person familiar with the matter” had informed WSJ was an associate of Jho Low. Perhaps that person familiar with the matter had assumed that WSJ would themselves be familiar with the fact that they were referring to the Chinese name of none other than the famed ERIC TAN?! Did WSJ fail to spot the significance of this name? As SR has pointed out in*previous articles, Eric Tan was*a key fixer for Jho*Low and is currently under investigation by the Singapore authorities. *In particular he organised with suspended Singapore banker Yak Yew Chee for US$20 million dollars to be wired by a Jho Low company*Acme Time*to PetroSaudi’s Tarek Obaid. This means that the same fixer, who channelled millions from Jho Low to Tarek Obaid, who was linked to 1MDB through the PetroSaudi deal, was the man who incorporated Tanore Finance Corporation and gave it an account at Aabar’s very own Falcon Bank, which was linked to 1MDB via a different Abu Dhabi deal. What a mighty bloody coincidence – given that Najib is still swearing that this money had come from a Saudi Royal figure! Did WSJ miss the full significance of its own scoop? Looks like it! |

Smelled of a Defraud....
The agreement and inter-agreement between 1MDB and IPIC, all ended with the Malaysian Govt footing the bills. The biggest loser will be the people as the monies are from taxpayers!!! So it makes sense that IPIC keep quiet when the company did not receive the payment of 3.5bn few years ago and only recently they raise the alarm of not receiving the monies. With such a big amount, nobody will keep quiet when it is due for payment. Obviously, it is all a ploy. |

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has sacked former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
Party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the unanimous decision, by the supreme council here on Friday, was taken as the duo had shared the same stage with the Opposition. He added that Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal's membership had been suspended until the Umno disciplinary board gets a report over the matter. Based on calls by Ummo Youth, Najib also said the supreme council would urge the government to cut funding to the Perdana Global Foundation which is helmed by former prime minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad. He said this included the number of personnel because the foundation had allegedly been used in an attempt to bring down the government in an unconstitutional manner. Muhyiddin and Shafie, who is Semporna MP, were dropped from Cabinet in July, 2015. In February this year, Muhyiddin, who is Pagoh MP, was suspended as Umno deputy president. Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi assumed duties as acting deputy president. In the same month, Mukhriz announced his resignation as Kedah mentri besar. The Ayer Hitam assemblyman said he made the decision as he had lost the majority support of the state assembly. |
