Default New 3ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft tank

I am intend to get a hailea chiller and eheim external filter for my new 3ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft tank in the near future.
Am I correct to say that the flow rate of the filter should be within the recommended flow rate of the chiller?

Any issue if I pair eheim pro 3 350 with hailea hs 66a? Any other better combo?

Thanks

Get a flow rate slightly higher or very close to the high end of the flow required. Overtime, your filter flow rate will drop due to age and filter media clogging. Plus you may want to add other equipment inline over time, like CO2 reactors or UV-C filters.

Don't forget every pump and filter has "head". I.E the higher up your outlet, the lower the flow rate. Theoretically, as long as your outlet is always submerged, its not issue. But if for any reason your outlet is above the water surface, the flow rate can drop.

Hi Vinz thanks for your prompt reply. The flow rate of hailea hs 66a is around 1000-2500L/H, mean that I should get a filter with flow rate around 2500L/H? Sorry I am very blur regarding all these figure.

I just realised your tank is roughly 180 litres. At 2400l/h that is 14x tank volume per hour. Seems quite high to me. What are you going to keep in the tank?

For planted tank, the old recommendation for flow rate which I think still works is 3x tank volume per hour. Nowadays some people recommend 10x.

10x seems high to me, but works for some people. I feel can go higher then 3x. Since your tank is roughly 200l and your chiller needs 1000l per hour minimum, personally I'd aim for about 1500l/h to 2000 l/h. Recommend that you test the flow rate with just water in your tank first to see how strong the flow is, and how to distribute it so that you get a nice even flow instead of a jet from one small outlet. use two filter , one for the chiller and the other for circulation.
i have same tank size as you , previously used only one eheim 350, not even sufficient flow. Two 350 has better outcome for me and maintain good flow and filteration. by the way i dont use chiller, my fan is able to bring the temp down to 27C
