Common name is quiet confusing..

My fish is Tor putitora collected at the hill of Kalikhola from the River Sankosh near the Bhutan foothills of Northern West Bengal.

Not those so call "kelah" species. (i.e. Tor tambroides, Tor tambra....) It is a different species.

Tor putitora has a more compressed body and with longer pointed snout as compared to some other Tor species.

yes, that fish is in a tank.

Wow bro.. u really know in detail where ur fishes come from haha.. Btw, from what I heard was that green masheers are known as golden masheers otherwise *confused*. So can I safely procclaim that these fishes are still quite unidentifiable at a young age except for the blue masheers(black stripe across body)? My brother bought his green masheer as a red masheer at a reputable fish farm last time but was later assumed to be a green masheer as the price was ridiculously cheap.

I don't usually bother about the collection locality of my fishes.... but like what you have mentioned, juvenile Tor species is quite hard to ID.

So knowing the collection location is quite important.

here is a side view

Another Nice Pic. I'm inspired to taken better pictures.
I have all 3, bought the red recently as the fins quite unmistakable. Snout also very different in comparison.

Red has a widest mouth with slightly downwards pointing snout for the malaysian cousin, indian cousin i do not know - never see but heard before.

Blue - The black line lor. However, i've seen some magazines showing no black lines but identitifed as blue due to a blue shine on it's fin.

Green - Widely available with a sharp snout but is the most difficult to tell fish unless it grows till about a feet or so. But then, there is still the cousin silver and golden marsheer in indian - seen from magazines.

Whatever it is, you got a nice looking fish - enjoy!
