Default High GH in Sakura tank

I have just set up a 1 ft cube planted tank for my fire red Sakuras. Its a rock scape. However, the GH is about 15. I have doing wc almost everyday and the GH is lowering by a bit. What are the effects of high GH? No fatalities so far. How do i lower the GH? What are the posible causes? I have since stopped dosing liquid ferts.

What kind or rocks you got inside? That could be your cause.

Agree the rocks may be the cuprit. But whatever the cause it doesn't really matter as Sakuras like Alkaline water

In the taiwan fire red shrimp thread, Silane had said that he actually increases the GH by adding Mosura mineral plus to enchance the color, that also increases the GH.

How about for CRS, whar happens if the GH is very high? Also, I have granite rocks in my tank. Its a scape. How do i remove the high GH other than removing the rock?

I believe that if the GH is too high, it will lead to the shells of the shrimps being too hard, thus causing them not to be able to moult.
Fatalities will only be seen in weeks time and not immediate effect.
Try WC until the GH reach the desired range.
Mosura mineral plus will increase the GH, thus be careful of over-dosing.
My 2 cents worth. Correct me if i'm wrong. Still learning too

Cheers,
XJ

Rock will cost water to have high GH and high KH and thus high pH, it is bad for CRS.

High GH and low ph is ok in most cases, so if you want to increase GH for CRS, choose shrimps additive that will not raise kh/ph.

Thanks. In my case, the PH is 6.5. I guess its due to the GEX soil and I am also using CO2. Will high GH cause fatalities in CRS?

I am actually keeping Japonica and HC in a aquascape with sakuras. I am not sure if CRS is able to survive in the water.
