Things there are very cheap and nice. Some species are so nice that can't find in S'pore.

I had packed some water plants as checked-in luggage from there last year

The scorps and spiders look nice, but they require specialized care and I think a person with no knowledge of such creatures shouldn't attempt to keep them. Like most creepy crawlies, they spend most of their time doing pretty much nothing, which would probably result in their owners getting bored of them and irresponsibly releasing or abandoning them. Which is also probably why AVA does not allow ppl to keep them. I've volunteered in the zoo's fragile forest before and I've seen the huge number of disowned or confiscated tarantulas and scorpions, all these cannot be released into singapore because they may either have a negative effect on the singapore wildlife or they may not be able to adapt to singapore's climate.
With regard to the star tortoises, I don't think anyone should buy them because they're endangered, and I think most specimens are wild caught. If we don't stop buying such animals, they'll never stop catching them.

Just my 2 cents. Cheers

holy crap...aren't they banned in singapore as well? the thai government allows it?

Although I love star tortoises as well(kept 2 before), I believe that they should be left alone in the wild and be allowed to reproduce..some people in thailand buy them just too cook and eat them =(

star tortoises are illegal, but Chatuchak is a huge market and many illegal animals are sold there sadly.
