Default cousins of betta - paradise fish

Hey all,

Although I have zero bettas now but still keeping its cousins

Recently bought a trio of paradise fish and within 2 weeks I got a tank of fries LOL

All the adults are kept separately in my 45 cm tanks since they are very territorial, worst behavior than wild bettas, really.

But, i find them more interactive and fun to feed too.

Photos maybe later, hopefully the tiny fries will survive to adult hood....

Nicely done. I'm also having paradise fish, these fishes are highly recommended for office where the air-con n cold temperatures are 23C or lower for 80% of the time.
They also do not need aeration or air pump to survive.
Rather than keep bettas n they get white spots due to the low temperatures.

Paradise fish are pretty tolerant of its surrounding water condition, very very hardy.

Its ironic I am keeping 2 type of anabatoids that have extreme water requirement, the other is chocolate gouramis, now, this is really freakingn challenging fish...

I think paradise fish is one of the most underated local fish, have yet to find the black version which is awesome looking.

Do you mean Macropodus opercularis or spechti? I think both are beautiful in their own right. Thing is, they are very rare.

The one that is easier to find is m. opercularis in LFS. Go to Nanyang at Seletar. Still have a tank of mainly females, yesterday when I check.
