generally bichirs are bottom dwellers...what I have encountered is when in new environment...when they are hungry and there is live feeders then they will swim around......maybe yours is a hyper active endii...

I feel this cld be the reason cuz i could not tell apart the last finlets fr tail portion and the tail portion looks like many finlets joined together.

And, if the japs can place such emphasis for the number of finlets, i believe it cannot be without a reAson.
It not possible that the finlet count will increase as they grow, we know this from captive bred bichirs.

Finlet count is really nothing super special. There is emphasis because it's a little rarer. It's marketing. Dun fall for it. In our market, very few r willing to pay top dollar for it. A little extra maybe but nothing more then that. Unless specially brought in, our lfs dun charge us extra also. So for those who manged to find it's like getting a freebie, IMO thats all there is to it. A 17 finlet without the look I like is pointless to me. When ppl come over should I make them count the finlet?

Yes bro, its just like getting an YI TIAO LONG arowana, i guess?
Thanks for such clear explanation. Head shape, coloration, stripes and size should be before the finlets counts........if a pbb is so stunning in shape and coloration, 14 counts of finlets is irrelevant right?
