Should be of some standard ba. Fulham will be playing in the premier league this coming season. Getting into their youth squad and playing in the reserve league will probably be better exposure than our s league or national div?
Staying there he has a chance. Clubs knowing he has to come back for NS, may just overlook him totally. |

Probably challenging to let one good footballer to defer NS
As it takes one good team to win And not just one member As for swimming the gold medals can be individual events |

"As all male Singaporeans liable for full-time NS put aside personal pursuits to dutifully enlist and serve their NS, it would not be fair to approve applications for deferment for individuals to pursue their own careers and development.
"Very few applications have been approved over the years and based on criteria which are made known to the public. In sports, deferments are granted only to those who represent Singapore in international competitions like the Olympic Games and are potential medal winners for Singapore. In the last 15 years, only three have met this criteria," MINDEF said. Speaking to Channel NewsAsia earlier, his father Harvey Davis said they were informed by the Football Association of Singapore that it will help to put in an appeal to MINDEF and that they were working on the appeal. "As the father of Ben, I really hope that common sense can prevail so that Ben can be given the opportunity to not just pursue his dream of playing in the EPL, but also the dream of every young Singaporean footballer and to make Singapore proud by being the first Singaporean to play in the EPL," said Davis. "If Ben is not deferred then the message is clear and simple; that there is no chance or opportunity for team sportsmen to compete on the World stage. What message does this send to our children and young Singaporeans who dream of playing professional football in Europe and the EPL or any other team sport," he added. (only copied the relevant potions n post) Read more at https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news...or-ns-10530834 --------------- Don't need to dramatize la.... if he is given deferment, than every Singaporean son also can apply for their own personal pursue. If MINDEF bend their backs for this case, than what signal are they sending? This player is applying to play for a english club, not Singapore. |

Again from a parent perspective, it is always good if possible to let your kids fulfill their dreams/potentials. This was what schooling's parents did. Difference is they still have their roots here and love their marine parade chye tow kway.
In this case, I guess they are localized citizens. Of cos, not much bond is here and it is pretty simple to make decision to give up citizenship here. |

Defence minister should come out and explain personally on the policy of deferment.

in 1998 Advisor of Football Association of Singapore and Government Minister Mah Bow Tan, set the stage for Singaporeans to dream of ‘Goal 2010’. when France 1st won the wold cup.
20 yr later... France wins another time. SG... akan datang. Fandi has taken his sons to Europe to develop their skills.. and from reports, when the time comes, most prob will let them have SA citizenship so they get a chance at the world cup. Dad of Ben is the same. Heck, if i'm the parent and the kid is showing great potential... I'll most prob decide the same. Some chances only knocks once. -------------------------------------------------------- While he remains hopeful that Ben will be able to defer his National Service (NS) pending an appeal, he told TODAY that the family is prepared to allow him to renounce his Singaporean citizenship in order to fulfil his footballing dreams. Should Ben give up his citizenship, he would be eligible to play for England or Thailand according to Fifa’s rules, as Mr Davis is originally from the United Kingdom and his mother is Thai. “I’m still hopeful that with the Football Association of Singapore’s (FAS) support for the appeal, and with the sentiment that the public are expressing, that will help,” said Mr Davis, who runs the JSSL Arsenal Soccer School here, on Monday (July 16). ADVERTISEMENT “At the end of the day, as a parent, I have to do what is best for my son. It’s (giving up Singaporean citizenship) not something we want to consider. “If we have no choice, and we find ourselves in that situation, I don’t think it’s a choice we will make lightly...either that or we have to ask our son to give up his dream.” |

Those medical students can do BMT and then defer the rest until graduation.
Those that went overseas to study early can do the same. My friend went abroad after O levels and only came back for NS after getting his degree. A deferment with conditions can be discussed? Mandatory BMT. Defer 2 years and maybe within these 2 years, he needs to make the national senior team. If not, back for NS. Do well and show real progression, renew deferment? So the ball is in his court to push himself and prove his worth. |
