Default My First Water Garden - Continued

This was when i was testing the ‘waterfall’ by pumping water from the 4’ glass tank up to the top fibreglass pond and see how the water flows down and where the leak is, if any.

If you look at the left side of the picture, you will see the rags i had to use to clean up all the leaks...

Learning point: Doing a thorough job at this stage to test for leaks will save you a lot of hassle later when you get a lot more things wet or worse still a flooded balcony. Just fyi, I did have my fair share of problems later.

This was the first test of all the stages of the waterfall in July 2007, based on the design.

More pictures.......

At this stage only the potted land plants were included as the water was not ready for any flora or fauna.

Some of the plants were the bird nest ferns, the spider plant and the common syngonium.

If any plant experts can help identify the other plants, pls do. thks

This is after i added more potted plants and started to do up the fish tank.

Also, started to use the shoe racks and umbrella stand that my CO wanted.

You're right, bro. TVRs would have been great.

As for me, I was afraid to invest too much on the fishes at that point cause i was doing alot of changes to the water scaping, and started to bring in potted water plants (some were in mud pots).

I was not sure how the water chemistry would affect the fishes.

Will post more pictures...

These pictures was taken about 11 months later in Jun 2008.

Had added some emmersed water plants in the fibreglass tanks. Some of them were pandan plants and a type of arrowhead plant (also can grow on land).

At that time, there were a couple of shops in and around the farmart area in Sungei Tengah selling these plants. Most of them have disappeared now, although i think there is still one on the way to Qian Hu.

The big brown wooden box you see in the picture was a shoe rack that i had to build as my CO was complaining that she did not have enough space for shoes. I had to keep my promise to her......(as stated in my third post).

I kept mostly guppies and swordtails at that time because of the replanting works that i was doing and i was not sure if any other fish was hardy enough to take the constant stirring up of the mud.

Have attached pictures of some of the inhabitants

Some closer shots of the plants.

Have also highlighted in red a section of plastic that seems to be sticking out of the bottom of the fibreglass tank.

I had to put this under the fibreglass tank to prevent backflow of water and to 'guide' the water to the fish tank below. I learnt this the hard way when water started flowing out of the fish tank instead of into the fish tank below.
