Default Setting up a nano reef

Hi, I'm new to marine & reef. I would need some help from you all for setting up a nano reef. Ok, from the info what I gathered so far, these are the steps need in setting one.

Things needed
a. Tank
b. Skimmer?
c. Powerhead?
d. Sands
e. Salt
f. Test kits

Steps to set up
1. Prepare salt and mix in water.
2. Set up skimmer.
3. Add sands. Deep Sand Bed?.
4. Add live rocks, cycle the tank for around 1 month.
5. Start to add corals

Can anyone enlighten me if i made any mistake? Or did i miss out any important items? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to this hobby, i hope you understand that a nano reef isn't easy to maintain. There are alot of challenges when it comes to water parameters as the small water volume makes the setup less stable and more prone to water parameter changes.

Since you want corals, you missed out a very important piece of equipment, which is lights. What sort of lights to get would depend greatly on the corals you want but IMO, HO T5s should be sufficient to provide light for most corals in a nano reef.

Another piece of important equipment you left out is the hydrometer/refractometer. Without these, you can't measure the specific gravity of the water.

Do note that during cycling, the skimmer should be kept off.

Hi bro, welcome :> . Make sure you do not keep any sand shifting animals like wrasses, if not the deep sand bed will not be efficient. Get the appropriate test kits as well, NO2, NO3, NH3, PO4.

DSB is not going to work in nano tank. as it requires large surface to be efficient.

In addition, with DSB, the volume of water and the swimming space for fish is greatly reduced.

Just perform a 10-20% weekly water change will keep your nutrients level low.

A chiller is required depending on the type of corals you're intending to have in the tank.

Ok, Thanks guys! Updated the equipments.

Things needed
a. Tank
b. Skimmer weipro 2011
c. Powerhead ?
d. Sands
e. Salt Coralife
f. Test kits - NO2, NO3, NH3, PO4
g. Lights
h. hydrometer/refractometer

Tank size might be 2.5ft. Is 2.5ft abit big for nano tank? Will the skimmer be enough?

angmoh - yup, will be performing a 10-20% weekly water change.

nim75sg - Wouldn't be getting a chiller, tight-budget~
