The wrasse maybe a false cleaner wrasse rather than the real cleaner wrasse. These two fish look very alike. The false cleaner wrasse pretends to be a cleaner wrasse and fools fish to letting it clean them. It will then "clean" them by taking a bite at them, i guess there should be not much of an issue here if the fish is well fed.
The real cleaner wrasse mostly perish in the home aquarium as they rarely accept typical aquarium foods. They consume parasites off other fish for food. IMO, these are best left in the oceans. The typical home aquarium does not have the fish population to sustain them. So far, from the two fish, the only way i can tell is by the black markings. The black markings differ slightly between the two fish. Here are some pictures of the two. The real cleaner wrasse, Labroides dimidiatus: http://www.aquahobby.com/marine/e_cleaner.php http://www.fishbase.org/Photos/Thumb...ry.php?ID=5459 The false cleaner wrasse, Aspidontus taeniatus: http://www.reefforum.net/photopost/d...taeniatus2.jpg http://www.fishbase.org/Photos/Thumb...ry.php?ID=6066

neon gobies... are gobies. haha. nice addition. is your perc half of a pair or solitary?
there is another easier way of distunguising false cleaners from true ones, the false species will have an "underslung" mouth, compared to the true species having a terminal mouth [for picking at parasites]. those with more experience might recognise a blenny-look about the false cleaner. great that your cleaner is eating prepared food, but it's not a very good fish to keep in such a small tank, it might harass your clown and tang almost to death. they need to have a lot of big slime-producing tankmates to thrive, in addition to eating high quality prepared food [like cyclop-eez], IMO. |
