Mulch will go back into tank if : 1. ohf box shaken 2. like under tank sump system, when switch on pump after switching off. Best don't switch off, if switch off, clean the media first before restarting. Side note about under tank sump, the dirt goes back into tank if pump is switched on before water level rises in sump tank because return compartment water and sediment is sucked up by pump.

Freshwater mussels
Last time put in tank and let them live in substrate.
Now bought six pieces and put in ohf filter box.
Enhance the biofiltration. https://www.ottawariverkeeper.ca/hom...water-mussels/ each mussel can filter and clean well over 50 litres of water per day

Freshwater mussels. This morning I threw them into the tank river sand substrate, the water in ohf box felt too warm for my liking : worry get mussel soup.

have been wanting to get shellfish for the same purpose, but always stopped short from buying because it's damn ma fan to keep checking if they're still alive or dead.

My initial two lasted a year plus in river sand substrate, then I IBS threw them into crab tank. Think they got eaten cos found empty shells a week later.
