Newbie questions on setting up CRS Tank
Dear All,
I hope someone can guide me on how to setting up & maintaining a CRS Tank... I just started running in my tank on Friday... Tank 1.5 X 1 X 1 Overhang Eheim Liberty 150 GPH... Twin fans 1.5 ft Lighting (The guy at the shop said this will provide the lighting for the growth of the moss) Water temp 25.6 - 26.0 degrees... Sand - Gravel Quart (The guy at the shop called it U.S. Sand) Brand Fennerel X'mas Moss 01 piece Nutrafin Biological Auarium Supplement (Supposed to breakdown Nitrates) 02 pieces of Driftwood & 01 piece of rock from my bros Aro Tank used for at least 01 year (The DW & rock has been in my storeroom for 06 months or more... ) Placed around 20 swordtails inside yesterday as the water was cloudy... A friend told me it's because the bacteria has nothing to feed on & hence was making the water cloudy... So far zero casaulties from the swordtails... This buddy also helped by filling 60% of my tank with water from his now running tank to help speed up the maturing of my tank... Questions: I'm afraid that it was because my friend gave me the water from his tank that brought about the cloudness of my tank as his tank is a planted tank with fertiliser which I suspect is the problem... I read that there are quite a few parameters to check on for example PH, Nitrates, etc... Can some tell me how to maintain or tune these parameters in the event of an imbalance ie. Too high or too low... I will be buying a PH Tester Pen & hopefully the other test kits as over the next few days... I also read about buffers & prevent / minimise spikes (I think it was nitrates)... How do you buffer for the parameters? Is there a way to buffer for all the parameters? I'm sorry if this is alot but I really want to start keeping CRS but do not want to murder them... Could any member who is experienced in keeping CRS reply me? |
