Sorry to hear of your loss bro
I gave away my IQ5 and bought an OF AIO 24 litres....but in the end decided not to go marine and stick to FW instead. Marine just seems too complicated! |

my IQ5.. 1 week plus no change water.. nitrate still maintain at 20 and my ammonia and nitrite is 0. Filtration is mechanical sponge, bio sponge and ceramic rings. inside the tank is Live rock and C1 coral sand.. so i believe the live rock and C1 coral sand plays a part in keeping the nitrate low

yea, with many affordable things available for sale and your experience from freshwater, starting a FOWLR will not be complicated. you only need lots of patience especially during the cycling period.

You need at least a phosphate remover for any size of marine tank unless not intending to have fishes in it.
For nitrate to be low first of all a nano tank is meant for nano fish anything bigger than 2" is consider too big. For iq5 the most 2 fishes unless u gonna have a skimmer and fr. Fish to consider might be goby, blenny and small clown |

liverock and thick layer of c0/c1 coral sand is very important i guess.. it helps alot in maintaining nitrate level. i tested 2 weeks of no water change in my iq5 (i like to test see how well my system can maintain itself), phosphate is 0, nitrate is below 20.. the other 2 killers are at 0. i doubt is due to my CR in my filter system and my iq skimmer that is maintaining the nitrate level but my liverock and my C1 coral sand substrate.
