No player has assisted more goals (15) than Trent Alexander-Arnold since the start of last season.

Premier League explain Roberto Firmino VAR decision - by saying Liverpool forward's armpit was offside
The Premier League have explained the VAR decision that saw Roberto Firmino have a goal ruled out at Aston Villa - by saying the Liverpool forward's armpit was offside. Firmino thought he'd equalised at Villa Park after Trezeguet had opened the scoring for the hosts , only for the linesman to raise his flag. But Liverpool fans were left fuming when VAR confirmed the decision - despite several stills showing Firmino looking level. A tweet at half-time read: "Liverpool's Roberto Firmino was flagged offside before putting the ball in the net against Aston Villa and the decision was confirmed by VAR. "The red line signifies Firmino and was aligned to his armpit, which was marginally ahead of the last Villa defender." Jon Moss is the referee in charge of the game, with Martin Atkinson - who infuriated fans when Liverpool faced Manchester United at Old Trafford - in charge of VAR. |

Out of 11 league games, Liverpool won 10 games with 1 goal margin in 6 of them. Indeed the team is grinding out wins where it was previously drawn or even lost. The mentality to win is there for all to see.

Many parties have came forward with analysis to show that Firmino was onside, but that VAR had done what it can to validate the linesman decision, instead of making the right decision |

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has changed his mind about Liverpool and there's a good reason why
So it begins. The shrill peep of the final whistle was still drifting through the chilly November air early on Saturday evening when thoughts began to turn to the next round of Premier League games. And one in particular. The big one. The fixture that could tell us more about the possible destination of this season's championship. But while Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp kept his counsel over next Sunday's Anfield showdown, Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola was somewhat less guarded. In fact, the Catalan essentially went in two-footed on his title rivals, who had sealed a comeback 2-1 win at Aston Villa just minutes after City had completed their own recovery at home to Southampton. "We arrived in the locker room and it was 1-1 and after it was 1-2," said Guardiola in the immediate aftermath. "What happened has happened not once, twice, it happened a lot of times - it is because it is a talent. So when they won many games in the last minutes, it is because they are a special character. "Sometimes it is diving, sometimes it is this talent to score incredible goals in the last minute." Maybe Guardiola was a bit irked Liverpool had once again rescued victory from the jaws of defeat, moving them on to 31 points from 33, keeping them six points clear of their nearest rivals. But more than just eyebrows were raised at his less-than-subtle dig at Liverpool matchwinner Sadio Mane. With Mane having won recent decisive penalties against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur, it was unfortunate timing the Senegalese had on Saturday been booked for simulation inside the area, despite replays suggesting he had rightly felt contact. What's more intriguing, though, isn't so much the content of what Guardiola said, but the fact he was compelled to pass comment in the first place. When Liverpool and City were going toe-to-toe during a thrilling, unprecedented title battle last season, it was refreshingly free of the mind games and amateur psychology that has blighted many a championship tussle. There was a healthy respect between both teams, the managers in particular keen to extol the virtues of the other's charges. That, though, has eroded somewhat since. In Manchester, that is. First there was the leaking of a video that appeared to capture some City staff members - and possibly players - joining in an unseemly chant on a plane to celebrate beating Liverpool to the title. Guardiola, to be fair, apologised, even if City's overall response was less than convincing. Then there was the insinuation last month that the forthcoming festive fixture schedule favours Liverpool. "Maybe the broadcasters are fans for some clubs," joked Guardiola pointedly, although somewhat more unsettling was the reaction of Omar Berrada, City's chief operating officer, during which he said "we need to make sure we protect the sporting integrity of the league". Guardiola has never been slow to comment on Liverpool, sometimes when not even asked. Indeed, the Reds were soon on his mind when Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers surprisingly defeated City earlier this season. The City boss has often worn his heart on his sleeve, not too dissimilar to Klopp in that regard. Lately, however, he's not been able to resist the odd dig. That's because he knows Liverpool are so strong and, given his latest comments, how dangerous and important Mane can be. He also knows City can't afford to be nine points adrift this time next week. Every advantage, even if its just planting the tiniest of seed of doubt in the minds of the officials, will be pursued. If not quite the friendly rivalry, it was until recently a respectful one. But, thanks primarily to Guardiola's increased spikiness, there will be an even greater edge when Liverpool and City walk out at Anfield next weekend. |
