What do you think of this statement regarding the choice of your fish food?
I was browsing the web on fish sickness and saw this statement.....
Some of the hobbyist I know fed their fishes with chicken, pork or beef. Quote. Fish are unable to utilize fat from warm-blooded animals for energy use. As a result, these fats build up in the liver, and over time will result in the degeneration of their livers. For this reason, meat from any warm-blooded animal, and especially beef heart, is bad for your fish. Also understand that warm blooded animals carry an entirely different set of invisible parasites, fungi and bacteria that fish have NO tolerance against. That’s why most fish foods are made with Fish Meal, not beef, chicken, or pork! It’s not natural. It doesn’t happen in nature (with the exception of Pirahanas) and it should not happen in captivity either. Fish eat other fish, algae and the occasional worm or crustacea! Unquote. |

I have been feeding beefheart to my discus. Most have bloated issues after some time.
Nowadays only feed bw, mp and dried food. Cant get the giant size anymore but the fatalities rate went down alot. Have also read many people fed pork, chicken to their Arowana. Hence, quite concern. |

I hope people realised that the word "Meal" in an pet food ingredient list basically means the bones and other things of that animal, not the actual meat of that animal themselves. A "fish meal" means fish bones, not actual whole fish meat.
And I tend to disagree and would prefers feeding some "fresher" option at times like bloodworms etc as I don't believe that any animals should be subjected to just human made food. |

Oppsies, read the topic totally wrong and can't edit my post.
Hmm, I have never fed any meats other than prawns and fish meats as well as the worms and other options I can find in the fish shops. I was wondering though, that in the wild, when a animal accidentally dropped into the water and drown, would the fishes not take the opportunity to have a free lunch? |
