hmmm...this is interesting.. where is it exactly? If im free i can drop by.
Btw you can actually ask them more specific qns like is the parents WC or F1?
Which overseas country exactly are they buying their fishes from. etc...

i was getting so excited when i saw "pure breed ones". but the next line kinda turned me off again.... "xbreed some like burundi x moba/ kampapa"

this is seriously bad... worse than zaires with mixed or no collection point. where moba x kapampa or kitumba x moba is still acceptable, burundi x zaire is totally off....

do you have a shop name? and where in bkk is this place?

another shop to add to the sian 1/2 list

i went to Y618 a few days back.... i got the best answer...
"boss! i heard you selling zaire frontosa is it? $58 to $68 depending on size?"
"huh? frontosa in the tank behind, $6 one..."
"no no, i heard got better ones about $58 to $68 leh... the blue frontosa"
"$50-60? all my frontosa blue leh you looking for big ones is it? we dont have, got to order" [owner of the shop doesnt even know they selling the fish???]
[anyone else saw zaires at y618 too?]

jack_dempsey, you are right. most people thinks that these tangans originate from africa, so their first reply is "africa"... though their answer is correct, there are many breeders around the world now. it just so happen that many of us consciously avoid tangans that come in from taiwan for some particular reason. so we always ask "which country it came from?" hoping that "taiwan" will not pop out. 99% of the time, we already know the answer... but we just cant help asking in hope that maybe, sometimes, the answer is different

since zaire moba is so rare of late, i am checking out all zaires to see if they look decent. i have accepted this fact and may look at setting up a tank of "zaire with no collection point". i am giving up and giving in slowly that in post#40, i also mentioned that even if "pale or stress is all right as long as there are no major defects."

that said, even if they came in from taiwan... bo pian also... at least must look decent lah. still zaires afterall...
If U follow the tis thread carefully, the place selling the ZBs is 'Go Nature' in Yishun Blk 932 not Y618. Yes, price is $58 - $68. But, as mentioned is all reserved. Ask shop owner, he said, might bring in another batch but not so soon. He busy preparing for Aquarama 2009.

The shop name is call cichilid world, located inside orh tor kor market. 5mins walk from CTC. I never go into much detaiils as for which country they bought their parent fish from. But they claim to self-breed for local market or export.
Another shop is located opp JJ Mall, need to cross the overhead bridge and walk in for about 5 mins.
Both need locals to bring me there for the 1st time becos their location is so ulu that we dun think of going there to explore, neither we know that such place exist.

As above. As long as they are honest in claiming that its a xbreed. It's ok for me and not selling at zaire price but not zaire. That is why im thinking if they are reputable.

what you said makes sense. we are caught in between finding a trusted source of pure zaire or settling for what we can find now

so what are the prices like? is it a farm or shop? or it has boths? any website?

price for a moba/kampapa is less than 2 blue notes, still got 2 red n 1 green change, for a 1-1.5inch. it is a shop located inside a market compound. However, their farm is 2-3hrs drive away. They do have SA cichilids also but majority are fronts.

Saw them having zambia, samazi, moba, kampapa, kigoma and Mblue when i came back last month.

i know there is a shop called Cichlid Fantasy in JJ sunday market which is opposite CTCk market.

they have very good Zaires and a lot of adult Tanz also

F1 fries is about the same price as what you mentioned, $80-90 depending on size and quality. they house the good quality ones individually. the normal ones are all in one tank.

i saw there a couple of months back. let me see if i can dig any photos.
