The people of Johor and their ruler, Sultan of Johor, understand the economy benefits Singaporeans bring into their state. If my memory serves, businesses in Johor Bahru expressed concerns on backslash on the VEP when it was announced.
I could be wrong. The VEP collected by MY immigration land checkpoints probably goes into government's coffer and not into State of Johor. Politics on our neighbour's side. The implementation of VEP, other than the revenue, could be their central government's exerting influence over state of Johor. Reminding Johor-ians the central govt. is still in-charge. Especially after remarks made by Johor Crown Prince on Johor could leave Malaysia Federation. (ref: Johor crown prince warns that state may secede if Putrajaya breaches federation's terms) When I was in secondary school, my history teacher mentioned the State of Johor is one of the richest states in Malaysia federation. Sometimes, they don't "listen" to Central Government in KL. Last edited by kenghua; 02-11-2016 at 04:06 PM. |

MY gov copy SG gov.
- Singaporeans are a complaint lot. KPKB a bit, but will accept it. So nevermind, 1 week, 1 month, S'porean will kuai kuai go back in. - S'poreans complaint, SG gov up price, MY gov also follow suit. In the end, we are always willing to accept, just a noisy lot |

The whole exercise only benefit the "Ah Gongs" n "Ah Kongs" ...
Dey can enforce and implement tic-for-tac for the toll-charges ... but who really benefit??? IMO I don't see any chance of reversion or changes... All I can hope for is a Miracle ..... but I know it is gg to be a very Long wait. |

Singaporeans will only stop going to JB when they find that it's no longer cost effective to do so........as of now, many people still think $20 for a round trip is affordable.......so MY can still implement their VEP........
