Later in the night, I switched it on again when it is dripping wet. For a moment there was the usual bright light, then there was a mini 'boom' sound. I knew something blew. Is it just the tube or the e-ballast that blew? Or is the whole thing wasted? Is it still salvagable? Hope either badman or Ken can advise on this.

To Betta-fantasy - My dad is ok, he is doing his 2 2-tier 4 ft tanks now. That is one massive aro setup, if you ask me.
The shrimps and fish are ok but I still got electric shock when I dipped my finger into the water last night.
Wah, serious man. You still go and switch it on when its wet. Bro, better be careful next time. Last time my dad also accidentally push my lights into the water but lucky no short-circuit. After drying the lights, it was still working. Quite lucky. Then should be the ballast that blew, if lucky could be the lights (cheaper to replace). Wonder this kind of lighting got fuse or not? Dun think so, right?

Cheers,
Lawrance

thank goodness you and your dad are alright.
when it comes to electrical stuff, it's better to be safe than sorry.
i would dump the whole thing and get a new set.
if u want to keep the casing for diy, best to get someone experienced to help.

shouldn't have switch it on when it is wet...
like other brothers said, wat u can do is replace the parts piece by piece, first the tube then the ballast... but make sure that it is completly dry before u do the test...
can dry it using a hairdryer...
lucky that no one is injured in this accident.

Default woh. me too

Was adjusting my tank just now. I have 2 light sets and i stacked my "boyu" style like on to my 2x15 watt atman. Because my atman is not the extendable type (i place my lights flush on the tank) it slipped into the water. Luckily the power supply tripped (plus atman is 3-pinned, is earthed), cos my hand were in the water trying to hold the lights up underwater.

will follow advice on this thread and dry it before testing. So far the Tubes are alright.

regards
