2nd AF Stingray Competition 2012
Dear Stingrays Victims, I mean Lovers,
As we draw closer to our AF Carnival, we will be hosting our 2nd Stingray Competition together. We would like to gauge the response by holding a discussion on this year’s competition. There will be some changes for this year’s set up. We are considering of having a purely P13 competition this year as compared to last year P13 & others categories. Some of our reasons for considering are: • We would like to raise the standards of our ray competition in AF to be of international standards, especially when you look at the kind of black ray’s quality that Taiwan, China, Japan and Europe competes with. • Within a span of 1 year, we have seen a huge increase of black ray hobbyists within our forums, as compared to others such as pearl, sakura and tiger rays. With this larger population of black ray keepers, we believe that this setup will be in line with the growing trend. • Some of the species under others, such as sakura and tiger rays are wild caught and we would like to promote environmental, sustainability and reduce overfishing for wild rays. Thus a black ray competition would be a good step forward as there are more captive bred black rays. We would like more hobbyists to participate, and understand that within the black ray group there are many variations. In appreciation to those who join, we would like to increase the number of prizes offered. Apart from the standard 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Grand Champion, we are opening up the idea of adding more awards base on characteristics found in black rays: • Best Eclipse Ray • Best Thousand Island Ray • Best Black Diamond Ray • Largest Spots Ray • Purest Spots Ray (in terms of spots whiteness) • Largest Jumbo Ray (However owner has to bare the risk of the ray due to the limited tank space and water volume) • Most Active Ray Those with basic 321 spots of P13 and BDLeo are allowed to join, however do bear in mind that you will be competing in the same category as those mentioned above. We understand that there are hobbyist that have P13 mix with long tail, paw-prints P13/P12, Hybrid P13/P14 or P13/others that are black base but brown spots and patterns. However in order to increase the standard of our p13 (Black Diamond/Eclipse/Thousand Island) we may not qualify them. We would like to hear from you, please feel free to share your views and thoughts about this year competition setup. Last edited by zhuangsw; 10-06-2012 at 11:22 PM. |

What we've indicated is not absolute. Everything is open for discussion.
We know that whatever decision is finally made, we'd never satisfy the thinking of everyone but we aim to at least cover majority of members in agreement to how the competition is to be. Within this short period from last year's competition till date, alot more showcases of Black Diamond and BDLeos have been seen. More and more members are keeping gorgeous looking BDs. We are not here to discriminate against all other rays but to streamline the competition. Nevertheless, nothing is confirmed hence things can still change. We'd like to hear out members. And finally, we hope members will finally be active in supporting this competition by participation and not just come in here to give their very vocal 2 cents worth of opinions. |

To encourage members with classic P13 rays to participate, we may consider a "Best classic 321 P13" sub award.

But bros, there are some "newbies" who cannot afford to get these P13s, but may be interested to participate in the event for the fun of it... IMO, no need to have so many cat for P13 alone, better to open up for "Open Cat" for others to join in.. how else are u going to get support from members who cannot afford the more ex P13s....? juz a suggestion ..

Naser
We are open to having the exact same competition implementation as last year. We're now just considering new possibilities. As I've mentioned, nothing is firm as of now. The purpose if this thread is to hear out members feedback. |

Agree with bro Naser. An eye-opener might be a "best designer sp. ray" category, judged solely by the crowd.
Just a suggestion |

Four Hundred views so far yet not many have inputs on this? So many ray players here keeping quiet.
Even if you feel this competition is a waste of time and effort do say so. No opinions are penalised. |
