Exclamation Lights of the future - LED?

Hi folks,

I was reading the new paper on the bus today and they had an article on LED lights. (Pg 36 of 2 March 2005 TNP)

I was wondering if there are any such lights in the market now for aquatic use.

As we can see now at most traffic light junctions, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is using LED lights as traffic lights. Why not try it on aquatic lights?

And its cooler than conventional lights!

Any comments, Bros?

heard the major problem at this moment for LED is short life span which is caused by burn-in if continues on.

LEDs is somehow sort of a in thing now..
just look @ those super bring led torch light...
wat 1w led...
the brightness is OMG...
led might be a new evolution in planted.. who noes...
as there are already some light bulbs that is using LED light rather then the good old filament in the market liaoz =)
but 1 thing abt led is the focus area is very small... which would not give good coverage for the tank...
unless it will nid to go thru some medium which can defract the lights and give it a better spread...

ermm...
i dont really think so wor...
i using led fans for my computer...
used to run 24/7 and its been 1 yr plus liaoz...
5 led fans... no sign of led burn...

short life span of led is most probably wrong input current bah...
thus causing it burn out...

Hi dude, think of it this way...

We have a board of size say 2 feet by 0.5 feet... the whole board is filled with those tiny LED blubs...

Imagine the brightness!!!

LEDs have been around the aquarium industry for quite a while now, however, most people who seem to use them are reefers to create a 'moonlight' look for their tank, which i think seems needed for their hobby.

We on the other hand as planted hobbyists seem to have no use i can think of at the moment for it. 'Moonlight' is useless in a planted tank.

But, interesting topic brought up though, thanks for highlighting it.

Cheers,
Jerome

yup...they do last for years and yet use little electricity...for us people in marine...we have already started to use them...but currently only as night light...to mimick moon light..but only some do to the extend of mimicking the moon phases also

if thats the case hor... its not economical liaoz...
as u can check the price of led...
its quite ex if u are really going to purchase that amt of leds

and also the output spectrum might not be of wat is neded for the planted tank...
as white led is the most ex led... follow by blue then red...
green orange/yellow i not sure.. haha...
