redcross red horny devil

juz came back home n i noticed all my cichlids driven to one corner.
i noticed one of my male red devil is chasing the fishes away from the filter. upon closer inspection, i realised the female is guarding the filter covered with eggs.

the problem is (how to make sure the spawn will be successful???)

netting the fish is totally out of question. my fishes are around 2-3inch big and are living in a 5ft tank, there is no way i can catch them.

secondly, even if i can net them, i dont have a bigger spare tank to house them. n i cant differentiate the actually breeding pair.

can anyone give any advise?
thank you

You should able to identify the pair guarding the eggs. The pair can get very aggressive during breeding and might kill all the other tank mates . thus be prepared to net out the rest if the aggressive level is too high. Alternatively, add a divider to separate the pair from the rest.

Isolate them with a tank divider.

was busy with work n studies, decided to neglect those eggs. while feeding few mins ago, i took a closer look at the spawning site.

all eggs were broken, n lots of wrigglers on the floor. i thought the parents were suppose to brood them in their mouth?

anyway the male aggression is off the chart, lots of my bigger size fish including dovii were injured.

i only can tried to feed more often n hope the other cichlids will be too bloated to think of snacking those wrigglers.

hopefully that will eased the devils mind, n concentrated on taking care of their babies.
