How to handle new Driftwood?
How do I process new driftwood from the LFS?
Does it float by default? |

Yes, it floats. You will need to soak it for a few days, depending on the size.
People boil them to help reduce the tannin, but that depends if you would prefer that yellow tint in the water. |

This is what i'll do. Give it a good scrub. After that, if the wood fits in a pot then submerge it in boiling water. If not just pour a kettle of boiling water on it.
My wood treated this way don't have the mouldy things growing on them. Hope it helps |

Why don't you try place your floating driftwood into a pail and cover it up to avoid mosquito breeding. After about 2 week it would be ready to be use. And please boil it before soaking them as if you do not boil them, they will cause your water to become blackish and sometimes those irritating white mould stuff will appear on those joint, roots area.
