Default Sump sequence

Hihi. Setting up a sump. Planning to keep 1 xb
Wondering what u guys put in the sump and in what sequence.
Was wondering if filter sock is better than wool?
What media u guys use? Should I install uv? And place carbon?

I use wool. Easy to just bring them out and rinse.

Media, Japanese mat, ceramic rings, oyster shell, coral chips.

My tank is indoor, dont forsee an algae problem. So, no UV.

Activated carbon is good for quick removal of pollutants and poisons, eg, overdosed drugs. However, remember to remove the activated carbon after 3 weeks. If not, the carbon will be leeching those pollutants adsorbed back into the water.

Hard mat under direct return Sump flow to prevent erosion of cotton.
Cotton for snail breeding (Joking. Remove bigger pieces of junk)
My media is mainly CC.
And 1 compartment ceramic rings

Activated carbon sitting in the bag at the side unless i use medication

I would like to think there's no best way.
Everyone sets up their tanks differently. In fact some might say my tank filteration not enuff... shd use better medias etc etc.

Thou truth be told, I'm looking at getting Marine Pure for nxt set up (*cough* - when i sell my hse.. i hope soon...)
Seems like a pretty gd replacement for like 50% of the CC at a much lighter weight.
Old liao.. harder to do tank maintenance wif heavy CC

If you can afford to spare the first compartment, you can use it as a refugium and keep scavengers like ghost shrimp, they will eat all kinds of rubbish further breaking down the fish waste.

Tried.. and found them all over the sump and in the pump

If put cotton at the gap between compartments will end up slowing the waterflow frm the compartment out

I have a layer of jap mat at the bottom, they can't get through that. Some of the ghost shrimp escaped into the sump and been living there ever since.

Everything I've tried so far - Mesh, Thinner layer of filter cotton, thin hard filter wool ends up choking the sump. Somemore 1st compartment is where the water return CAN end up choking up the whole tank.

Give up since last try
