You might also add some aquarium salt to help clean the fish gills. This will help their breathing pattens.

Perfectly normal for rays to swim/fly/glide ard within. Sometimes, they cover the whole flat base air-stone with their disc & let out big ripples of air pockets every now & then. Amusing when you see that happens......

my pup sp swims on the surface above the air stone all the time..... it comes down to the bottom for feeding and playing with the pleco and other fishes when it feels like it. I think it is a form of exercise.

my rays does that all the time they seem to enjoy it.
