Does anyone have pictures of where the bones would stick out on a ray?

or pictures of a skinny ray?

Wish i didn't have any pictures...but i do. My project...little female. Real challenge getting her to eat.

Here she is up near the overflow.

Clearly see the 'hip bones' here.

Empty tum.

Probably not eating enough. Eating is good. Next thing is eating what and eating how often and how much. In my limited experience, rays are super active all the time, day or night.

If you've got other fast feeders in the tank, i've found that giving a feed at night after everyone else has gone to sleep helps. This way, there's less competition and the ray(s) have more time to enjoy their supper.

It really pains me to see a ray in this stage. Wish you luck nursing it back.

Yeah i know. I didn't pay for her though. But still. Arrangement is if she makes it, i pay for her. If not, then at least someone gave her a fighting chance.

Will have had her 2 weeks this Sunday.

I've tried everything...well almost. Side effect is, tankmates are full full. Water quality isn't an issue. There's another ray (male) from the same batch who is doing fine. Also skinny initially but now fat fat.

Tried the following specifically for the rays:
- frozen bloodworm (that the male loves)
- ghost shrimp (that the male loves)
- torsat (that the male loves)
- MP (neither like)
- little goldfish (probably a bit optimistic since at 6x2x2.5 and with lots of other tankmates, not likely either will get at them)
- the little white/pale coloured fish from NTUC...i forget the name (but neither like)

As far as i can tell, the female doesn't eat any of the above. I've been feeding tubifex worms the last couple of days cos that was what the shop was/is feeding them. I think she goes at it but never whack until tum tum is round or even noticeably bulging. And i know for sure there is enough to go around coz i drop them in after everyone else is asleep and the 2 rays are still active.

Anyone got any other suggestions? Might try incapacitated ghost shrimp (via short stint in the freezer) and see if she might be interested since they won't be hard to catch....but i've seen her swim right over one or two and she didn't seem keen.

Almost at my wits end. Always welcome any suggestions...

BTW, water parameters are as follows:
  • Ammonia - 0
  • Nitrate - 0
  • Nitrite - 10mg/l or at most, 25mg/l
  • Water temp - ~28 deg C
  • pH - 7.5
  • ORP / Redox potential - +430mV
  • Last water change - almost 2 weeks ago, 16/6
