Need help from experienced aro keepers for my beloved aro
Hi Folks
Really need some help here Have my HB aro for over 1 year now, it was always good apart from the initial stress caused by me due to lack of experience. Always feed on pellets expect for the first few month, when I was trying to pellet train him. So in summary, nice healthy fish and now at 40cm mark. Water parameter was always stable: Weekly water change PH: 6.5-7.0 Ammonia: 0 NO2: 0 NO3: 5ppm Temp: 27-27.5 degrees (had a drop few weeks ago, forgot to plug the heat back went down to 23.5) Tank Mate: 25cm Stingray 10cm Gold Servurm ( but now in separate tank) So here are all the history and recent background. But since 3 days ago, it stops eating, and staring to drop poop like what you see in the photo. I always closely monitor the waste in the tank, and was always been normal. I notice it has bit of damage to his head and anal fin, I am pretty sure it would have jumped and hurt himself at night time, as he has done it before. But the following symptoms are really worrying me: not eating, abnormal poop, slightly swollen belly Not swimming as actively compared to how he normally does, heading down slightly maybe at 15 degree angle. Have spoken to someone with some general experience. Advised to just keep monitoring it for another few days. Really love this guy, plan to keep him for many years, dont want to act too late but at the same time dont want do anything where not necessary. Advice is greatly appreciated. |

One more information, I did try to feed the fish a bit more food in the last few days before this symptom as I thought its a bigger now and need to more food. But all the sign really worries me about internal parasites.

Ts, the aro looks a little stressed up as it is still adjusting to the new environment.
From the clip, is one side of its gill curved out. Wc daily at about 20 to 30%, reduced feeding for the time being. |

swim bladder problem
Hi All
Thanks for all the reply. After observing him for few days and doing some more research on the forum. I am pretty sure this guy has swim bladder disease. I must say this is all new for me to deal with. Treating now with 29 degrees temp and adding salt to the water. Not feeding since he wont eat anyway. The 2 possible cause I can think of is: 1. He hurt himself from what ever reason as I can see some damage on its fins and head. 2, over feeding, which I did in the past week before this happened. I really hope he would make it through, not sure how long this would take, Cheers |

Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) instead of table salt (sodium chloride).
Epsom salt can be found in pharmacy
